The event requires extensive teamwork among community...yeah, that never works.

It's a shame they didn't limit the ingredients to Shing Jea, or at least not require all of them (have the chef discover he already has the last one, in the final 30 seconds, for instance).
Maybe they should also have given the mini-pet to people who help complete a course, even if the district doesn't finish.
I do love the concept, though - it just needs to be balanced for a more relaxed pace in future.
Couple of things I've noticed:
The higher districts do better - presumably because the lower ones are pre-filled with AFKer's. The pigs I received were in the 40's and 50's. 10's and 20's did nothing for me.
It is very possible to district hop. You can judge before hand if your district is getting there - if it isn't, move! It's also still possible to claim prizes twice, with the higher districts often behind lower ones.

One thing that would've helped if Anet increased the drop rate on some of this stuff since some items are hard to get for some.

I agree. For those that actually made the effort to get the ingrediants, it was really frustrating to turn in the ingrediants only to have the district fail and get nothing.
I suggest next time that they change it so that anyone who turns in all the ingrediants to one dish automatically gets the reward. They can still make the event about community participation but my suggestion guarantees that people WILL participate and get rewarded.

With the op on this - now that people know that they can rely on others giving the ingredients and get the pig anyway - why bother?
Spend hours getting ingredients vs. afk in a dist...... hmmm.....
Anet could have thought this one through better and actually distingushed levels of participation.
1. afk in dist
2. giving an ingredient (1 token is pathetic)
3. giving ALL ingredients (special special prize)
This would have rewarded everyone appropriately.

If your district has 4 minutes left, and still hasn't got everything ready, then you should hop to another district, since it is possible to finish the meal with 4 minutes left.
As I said in another thread, the things you need to acquire are just dumb. 5 of the items can only be found in the RoF, a place most people try to avoid. Furthermore, the things you have to kill for the ingredients are some of the most annoying things on the RoF, and in order to kill them you need a full party of heroes + henchmen, so you're lucky to get an ingredient to drop once per run.
Next time the ingredients need to be from places that are more easily accessible (like azure shadows) so that it's not such a grind if you want to get all the ingredients.

I had three of the feasts complete myself when I went to participate in the finale so that had to help but I was lucky enough to get into a district where people were working togeather. I would have liked to see people rewarded better for individual participation like completing a feast course but I think they managed a nice event. Getting a single token for my trouble was indeed disappointing but I did have a hell of a good time adventuring with some of the guildies scrounging for the items in the 1st place.
To some of the other comments I've read in here, your always going to have people that want to do zip and reap the rewards. Perhaps if a person doesn't give at least one item towards the event then don't give that person any special rewards regardless of how the community in that district did.
The drops in some of these areas was indeed very hard to acquire and I probably spent about 4 or 5 hours gaming to complete just three dishes. People that don't have that time to game wouldn't have a chance in hell to complete even one dish, so the community effort was indeed helpful but I still say don't reward your AFK or slackers if they did nothing.

if anet/gaile, in their infinite wisdom, could have released a bit of info a bit earlier (such as, what the ingredients are for and how you turn them in), this event would have been a lot better
but their record for events is pretty bad

I agree - i guess i understand that they keep things secret so as to keep the surprize factor strong but it really leads to things being a pita. If we had a bit more CLUE like VitisVinifera said - things would go more smoothly.

Even if the community was relatively tight nit, is would still be nigh impossible to gather together all the ingredients for everything in one district unless every person got every single ingredient for every single chef. This was poor planning and must have been based on the alpha community. I wish they would stop doing that kind of stuff.

Or you could've got all the ingredients, and be treated like a hero for it by the entire district, like me ^^
I was sprinting to the cooks as everyone cheered and said go :P It was fun, and it was worth farming the ingredients. (Truffles and Smoking Remains were kinda hard, though)
Well I enjoyed my moment of fame, and my mini pig
If A-Net isn't clear about what to do with items, just get them anyway, cause something's gonna happen

4 tries= 4 pigs
Districts in teens
started checking ingredients 1-1/2 hrs ahead.
Last check 1/2 hr before
Gave ingredients to other people to cut down on running.
After I gave my last requested ingredient, I went around checking for chefs who were still missing something and calling for help.
If a chef is missing something he gives you the ingredient donation window, otherwise he tells you the dish is completed.

I did do this.
Twice i spent quite some time talking with others - we tought we had a full set of ingredients. Unfortunatley twice people who said they had specific ingredients spent the event afk or just watching- I looked at their characters and one just stood not moving at all and the other clapped for the whole event. Either they missed the event or did not really have the ingredients in the first place.
I did finally manage to get into a district where people had and actually used their ingredients successfully.

@bokken - I wasn't bragging or trying to minimize other peoples efforts. This entailed a lot of luck. I only had ingredients complete for one dish and a few for others. That other players in district cooperated with each other each time was amazing.
I'll keep trying until my ingredients run out and then start giving away the extra pigs to those less fortunate.

I'll agree to the fact that the initial impression the Chefs gave, that you needed EVERY ingredient personally, was a bit of a fright.
The fact that the task fell to an entire district of players was a great relief. If there is one thing I have faith in its the farming ability of our community. I'm more ruffled by those that felt entitled to unique prizes or fiscal compensation for their time.

I never thought you were being negative - i was just saying that I still had trouble even after trying hard to arrange for all the ingredients.
sigh,,.....Im sorry to say that it happened again - got into another dist and we were assured by one player for well over an hour that he and his alliance had all the ingredients but one - I had the one he was missing, plus others, so we all agreed that we were covered. 30 mintes to go he and his friends decided to leech off our dist and save their ingredients for a later event.....
I have to say that we pulled together and scrambled to get everything at the very last minute - 2 people even left with 10 minutes to go and quickly were able to get 2 missing ingredients.
Had a great time at the event - just, well you know..... but nothing in lfe worth doing is easy is it? lol
Have to say Celestial Pig Conga lines ftw!!

I had a great time getting all the ingredients.....didnt have them all each time (my hubby went farming for the smoking remains and finally got one after 5 attempts and by then I had used my unctuous remains up).
It was fun running from chef to chef.....I did this for 4 of 5 events....I was afk during one (almost feel asleep at the computer so I laid down and a few hours past but when I woke I had 16bags and a piggie ).....and the last 2 I was in a dist where a few were coordinating who had what and who didnt (some people took a chef each)..... I told people which things I was missing and others filled in-----then when that was over I gave the remaining stuff (minus a few for posterity sake) to someone else to use in the last remaining events.....hope they are put to good use.
I got a total of 5 pigs now....giving one to my hubby and his brother (my guildees)....so I m happy enough.....now I never did get one from the fortunes and I opened about 400+ of those (but made a ton of plat so not complaining tooo loudly).
I think it turned out ok, wish that there were soo many afk-ers but what can you do? its just a really really big pug!
